Downbeat - sixth drop

Downbeat is released regularly as a break from the onslaught that dance music can be.
This time out, I wanted to showcase some extended pieces, and lean a little on the chilled side of jazz, rather than the ambient or dub genres. With only ten tracks, the mix still clocks in at nearly 2 hours.

Taking the Long Way - Paul van Dyk
The newest of this collection, a rare downtempo track from the master of trance.
North - Prince
A couple years ago, Prince released an expiremental jazz album called 'N.E.W.S.' Each track was 15 minutes long, making the collection basically an hour long jam session. "North" is the chilled opener.
Summertime (UFO Remix) - Sarah Vaughn
The acclaimed 'Verve Remixed' series serves up this trippy gem from one of jazz's most revered vocalists.
Loving You - Nancy Wilson and Peabo Bryson
From a collection called ‘Color and Light: Jazz Sketches on Sondheim’, the song comes from Sondheim's controversial musical 'Passion'.
As Falls Wichita, So Falls Wichita Falls - Pat Metheny & Lyle Mays
This atmospheric tone poem is twenty-seven years old, but still sounds way ahead of its time. Definitely a precursor to the ambient chill craze that took hold in the early 90s.
Ombra (Ibizarre Remix) - Cirque du Soliel
Cirque's music can be just as magical as the performances. 'Ombra' is Italian for 'shadow', and this track bridges the gap between jazz and electronica.
Storm in a Teacup - Moodswings
As the name of the group suggests, Moodswings is in the business of making music to chill to.
Giocoso, Giocoso - Groove Corporation
Another great Ennio Morricone composition given a modern makeover.
It's Enough Now - Mandalay
No other artist, except perhaps Madonna, has more tracks scattered all over Danceteria, all from one album, than Mandalay.
Blue Room (Full Length) - The Orb
I debated with myself over the inclusion of this track, all 40 minutes of it. But if nothing else, Danceteria has become my regular opportunity to share with you some of my favorite music. 'Blue Room' blew me away the first time I heard it, in length alone it is nothing short of epic. Be sure to listen for Marilyn Monroe toward the end. I don't know why she's there, but it's pretty fabulous that she is... v.3.15
